Mixed Up Magazine - A Blog Hop

Hello Everyone and I hope you are enjoying meeting the Mixed Up Design Team!
Welcome to my blog.
As you know, each of us is sharing our favourite makes for Mixed Up today, and the project I’ve chosen to share with you is a voodoo doll I made using a digi Image available from OwlNique on Etsy.
I resized the digi download to the size I wanted and then printed it onto printable fabric then it was eazy peazy to cut it out and stitch it together.
I made my stitching very scruffy around the edge as I felt this would add to the charm of my little doll. I replicated some of the printed elements of the doll with embellishments, adding a button over the printed eye, making a proper skull pin using small charms to replace the printed one and highlighting the heart with red stickles.

I’m also showing a sneak peek of something else I’ve got coming up next month in June.

The Mixed Up website has tons of mixed media projects, including these and many more! If you want to know more pop on over to the website using the link below to join.

A return

Due to family circumstances I have had a bit of a break from the world of blog and not really been around so much online generally.
So I am very pleased to make a return to blogging tonight with a blog post for PaperArtsy.
PaperArtsy have always been one of my favorite stamp companys and some of theirs were actually the first stamps I brought all those years ago so for me to be one of their bloggers to me is amazing.
I have a journal page on the blog tonight featuring one of the latest paint release sets from Seth Apter and one of the new stamp sets by Kay Carley. Full details of the latest releases can all be found on the PaperArtsy Blog.

Mixed Up Magazine Challenge

Ohh Mega excitment, Mixed up Magazine have started a monthly challenge.

Full details of the challenge can be seen on the blog HERE.

This month the theme is cork

I have used a cork from a wine bottle (such hardship was endured to provide this cork so please appreciate it lol) I have made an Alice in Wonderland hanging decoration.

I stamped around my cork by rolling it along the rubber stamp, added a strip of book page with the words "Alice in Wonderland" on it. I then then used wire to hold bits in place on the cork and then another length wrapped around the whole project to add beads to the outside.

Buttons added to the top and bottom and then lots of dangly things added to hang from the bottom jump ring.

It would be lovely if you had the time to enter the challenge this month.

You can also keep up todate and share your mixed media makes on the magazines  facebook page.

Not a Barbie Girl - It's Aqua

I have a  post on PaperArtsy's Blog tonight on the theme of Aqua. Full details and lots more photo's are on the blog and it would be really lovely if you would pop on over and have a look and while your there show a little love on my post.

I found myself singing Barbie girl while I was making this and I could not work out why, so I googled the song and found it was sung by Aqua, so that was that ear worm explained.

A little write up on how I made the book can be found on this blog post.

Below  is a short video showing how I made the hanging charm.

Back to Black with That's Crafty's Sparklers Sprays

That's Crafty have a range of sparklers Sprays out, I have had a play with them and made a video as I went along.

They work best on dark surfaces as they are interference sprays and on a white background they just get lost.

My YouTube video can be seen below.

Have a fun day, Carol xx

Hand made Journal/Memory Book instructions

I make these little memory books/Journals a lot and I get asked for the instructions for them and I usually just email them, but I thought I would put a copy of them up on here.

The one shown is a Paris themed one I did for a Hen-Do weekend, lots of pockets for bits and pieces and clips to hold photos in place and of course lots of space to write in.

These are only very basic instructions, but then it is only a very basic book.

Gelli Star Book

Decorate 5 A4 sized sheets of lightweight card using your Gelli Plate, my card is 210 gsm.
Cut each so you have 10 pieces measuring 5 x 8 inches. Fold your 5 pieces in half so they are approximately A6 sized. Cut two pieces of stronger card to this folded A6 size (these will be your book covers)( 4 x 5 inches) Amazon packaging is ideal. ( I only used 7, but the extra give you choice of prints to use, or to give your book more pages if you wish)
Cut piece of black card to the depth 5 inches and, approx 8 inches long.  Crease at half inch intervals.
Concertina up and glue or tape the back pieces together  to form pointy bits Clamp with bulldog clips until it is dry.
Unfold your paper pieces and glue one of the short ends of each piece to the back of one of each of the folded pieces along your concertinaed “spine”
Fold each page over and glue in place along the front of the same spine piece, leave the top open to form a pocket so only glue to about an inch up the sheet, but glue all the way up the actual spine to hold the page in place. Fold over and press firmly in place. Repeat along the length of the “spine” until you have the amount of pages you want,
Glue the two card covers to the back and front flaps of the book and clamp it all in place for a few minutes to give it all a chance to dry.

Cut one of the remaining pieces of Gelli paper in half. Use this to line the inside of the front and back cover, sandwiching a length of ribbon between the gelli print and card cover to use as a tie to either hold your book shut or open in it’s star shape.

Have fun, Carol x

That's Crafty- New Release Grey Board Shapes.

That's Crafty are on Hochanda on Friday 16th June at 8 am and 2 pm, and among the new releases on the show are some pretty awesome grey board products. I fell in love with these and I have done a short video giving a show off of them, as I felt a photo would not do them justice.

I have used these a lot, as have the rest of the DT for the show samples and they stand up really well to layers of paint and other media. so if you fancy a look click on the link below to watch the video and the Hochanda shows are available to watch on catch up if you missed them
